The highest court in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) ruled that a man is allowed to beat his wife and children as long as he does not leave bruises or other marks, local newspaper The National reported Monday.

“Although the [law] permits the husband to use his right [to discipline], he has to abide by the limits of this right,” wrote Chief Justice Falah al Hajeri in a ruling issued this month and released in a court document Sunday.

“If a wife committed something wrong, a husband can report her to police,” Dr. Ahmed al Kubaisi, head of Sharia Studies at UAE and Baghdad Universities, said. “But sometimes she does not do a serious thing or he does not want to let others know, when it is not good for the family. In this case, hitting is a better option.”

How screwed up is that? You can beat your wife as long as you don’t bruise her? What kind of bullshit is that? If you’re going to beat your wife, do it right!

Seriously though… This is the problem with the middle east. They hate women and it shows. Could you imagine if the US tried to do something like that? Rosie O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg would have a heart attack. The good news is that their wives / husbands could beat them and get away with it. That’s almost worth making it a law here… I’m kidding! Sort of…

In all other cases though, this law is just complete crap. I understand the culture is different there but damn… that is just screwed up! Guess we’re not shipping any mancards or t-shirts to the UAB anytime soon. The last thing we want is some dude over there beating his wife, bruising her and then having our t-shirt on in his mug shot. Then again, all publicity is good publicity. Right Lane Kiffin?
